The 5 Second Rule

Mel Robbins

Today’s TBC audio file was great timing! Yesterday we had tornados in my area so I didn’t get a chance to do a meeting I wanted to. The shifting energy in the environment kept me from having my usually great night’s sleep. This morning I had to change my routine and get the car to the shop for some repairs. I then had a busy day at work.

I get home, eat some dinner, and decide to watch some tv. Then it hits me! I haven’t done my Wellness Wheel Challenge post or listened to my audio file. I contemplated waiting until later tonight, but decided it would be better to do it while I was thinking about it. I do my live and then listen to the audio file for today. It’s about Mel Robbins book The Five Second Rule. Mel’s rule says “the minute you have an instinct to act on a goal you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain with stop you”.

I began to ponder all the times I was going to jump into things and I can truly say if I wait longer than five seconds there is a high probability I will convince myself it can be done later. If the thought appears and I immediately get my body in motions to gather what I need, open the right program, acquire paper/pen…whatever it takes to get things started the momentum follows and I move through with focus. The following sense of accomplishment is great.

What do you need to accomplish? Whatever just popped into your mind move toward it now. Don’t wait – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 – GO!
